The Journey

Pawsibilities are Fenceless

This is solid, right? I can't take credit for it but it was still under our umbrella and I will take credit for us as a company ushering this phrase as a "thing." Because BarkGrr has become a thing....

I feel as if I have always been a dog person but when I found that dog on the street in Hollywood at the end of 2018, I thought it would all end when I found the owner. I did not think my life would begin to revolve around four legs and a wet snout.

Let me take you back to where this all began, our origin story if you will:

I bounced out of my lease in my Hollywood apartment because in a moment of a white savior personality, I found a dog and fell in love. Due to my annoying want for companionship, I became quickly attached to her and was ready to up and leave my apartment for a new dog life. So I found a place in Anaheim with a friend who was illegally legally sneaking his dog in as well. We figured, we would sneak our dogs in as homies and tackle the esports industry on the side. EASY!

One week before my move however - I found the owners. The story was previously written about but again, in a bittersweet way, the Pico-Boo Westwood story was over....or so I thought.

Too prideful to shlub my way back into Hollywood, I took my penance and headed to Anaheim. I figured I would do a 6 month prison sentence, chill with a friend and have a dog I can occasionally play with for my mental health while getting more traction within esports. Within the month of my move, the work seemed flaky and the dog was caught, putting us in ANOTHER building on high alert and one moment away from being evicted.

After a week of work and meh-dates back in Hollywood, my cellmate/roommate and I were having a rabbit hole conversation one afternoon. Cheap whiskey and a bowl in, we spiraled about dating culture. We both dipped out of long term relationships but at different phases of our lives. We bonded over our emotional Pisces tendencies and a lack of depth in most relationships both platonic and romantic. I rambled on about dating with substance, continue this want to be with someone that I could have meaningful conversations of depth while also being able to act like children without judgement. We turned the conversation to having a partner with dogs...which spiraled into an existential conversation on humans and their innate ability to care for an animal which then parlayed into preferring partners that we have seen treating a dog with love which FINALLY ended with wanting more people around us in general that like dogs....

THAT is what began the current adventure....

What about a dog relationship app?

Platonic and romantic.....

BarkGrr but not spelled the normal way.

Lets combine both things dogs like to say!

From there research into University and medical studies on what a relationship with a dog does for you neurologically. The health benefits of animal companionship and not only how they've evolved to take on human behavioral tendencies but we as a pack, ultimately choose potential partners - both romantic and platonic - on how they themselves treat a dog or animal. ALL OF THESE POSITIVE EFFECTS !!!

But what is the issue?

Similar to how dating in 2019 is a clusterfuck, the dog situation here is hell too. The homeless and adoption rate of dogs and animals throughout the United States is genuinely an epidemic. Lets be honest, as an American society we already have trouble helping humans, so it is only natural that if they are struggling, there is bound to be a ripple effect at some point that will hit dogs.

So how can WE actually help we thought.

What if decide to integrate Adoptions and Rescues into the mix, allowing people to not only build out their own little dog community but contribute to the alleviation of an epidemic. Playing off of society's love for dogs, we figured we could utilize Adoptions and Rescue's "story factor" by giving them another outlet directly to engage in a community craving to help. The model is simple - Have people that already care about a community keep the dollar and love within the community while using the cause to expand.

BarkGrr was born.

We are funded for an MVP. Our app will be accessible in Hollywood this fall. Our immediate friends are in love. Dog Community members see the influence beyond the dates. Investors have been lining up. The universe has continued to be weird.

But we are still two dudes. Believing in something so ridiculous and out of our ballpark that this has become a thing that we still ask each other every night - Is this real?

So if you are reading this..... If you have a dog - pet their head and thank them for putting up with you today. Then ask them if they want to go out and play with a new pal that you'll eventually find on BarkGrr...... The Pawsibilities are Fenceless.

The Journey Continues....
